The best online poker players
You only have to look at Dan Bilzerian’s Instagram to see that there is a lot of money to be made in poker. The venture capitalist/poker player has forged out a very successful career for himself both on and off the table.
The money one can make from poker is frightening but what is more surprising is the amount of money you can win from a successful online poker career. Below are some of the best.
Phil Ivey
Ivey is widely regarded as the greatest poker player of his generation. On land-based tables he has scooped nine World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelets and one World Poker Tour title but “The Phenom” is just as prolific online.
The 38-year-old was a member of the original design team of Full Tilt Poker before starting to clean them out with his high risk betting. According to HighStakesDB.com, Ivey took FullTilt for a $1.99million in 2007, $7.34million in 2008, $6.33million in 2009 and $3million in 2010.
All in all, “The Tiger Woods of Poker” has made $19,242,743 in profit during his career, nearly all of which came from FullTilt.
Patrik Antonius
Finland’s Patrik Antonius loves his high-stake table poker but he also proven to be no slouch in the online realm. The 33-year-old currently holds the record for largest pot won in an online match after he took $1,356,947 from Viktor Blom.
In total the Finn has taken $11,315,549 from online rooms.
Phil Galfond
Unlike the two prior, Galfond made his name in the poker world via online tables rather than casinos. Going under the alias “OMGClayAiken”, Galfond has gone onto amass over $10million in online poker clashes thanks to proficiency in $200/$400 stakes in no-limit Texas hold ‘em and pot limit Omaha.
Although Galfond has played on the tour he is rarely seen on it nowadays but when you have $10,035, 683 in online profits what does it matter?
Di Dang
Di, alongside his brother Hac, learnt the poker ropes in college, as you do. Originally starting with a shared bankroll, the brothers started squashing cash games, before having enough bank to go it alone.
Dang is an extremely rare sight at live poker tables but when he is witnessed at the table he has proven to be a dab hand, in Macao, 2012, he won a cool $500,000.
To date, Dang has $7,411,127 in profit.
Daniel Cates
Dan “Jungleman” Cates is one of the best heads-up No Limit Texas Hold ’em players in the world. After originally starting out with $0.25/$0.50 stakes he progressed to $25/$50 in the space of two years.
He is currently locked into the Durrr challenge with other poker player Tom Dwan. The two started this momentous challenge in 2010, whoever has the most money after 50,000 hands played will win a cool $1.5million, as well as the money they would have taken in the 50,000 hands. With over 20,000 hands played Cates is currently leading by $1.5million.
To date, Cates is $7,299,700 in the black.
